Motorcycle Chase Leads to Violent Crash and Closure of All Eastbound Lanes on 210 Freeway in Upland.

UPLAND, Calif. (KABC) — A high-speed motorcycle chase ended in a violent crash on the eastbound 210 Freeway Thursday afternoon following a domestic violence shooting incident in Rancho Cucamonga.

Authorities said deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call at 2:41 p.m. in the 12300 block of Hollyhock Drive. Upon arrival, the suspect opened fire, fatally striking Deputy Andrew Nunez before fleeing on a motorcycle.

A pursuit ensued, reaching speeds of 150 mph, prompting multiple lane closures on the freeway. A SigAlert was issued between Mountain and Campus avenues around 3 p.m. as traffic backed up significantly during rush hour.

Witnesses reported witnessing an off-duty deputy strike the suspect’s motorcycle to intervene. The suspect was ejected from his motorcycle and landed on the roadway, where he was quickly subdued by law enforcement.

The suspect was conscious and alert when authorities arrived and was airlifted to an area hospital in stable condition. His identity has not yet been released, and authorities are conducting a forensic investigation to confirm it.

Deputy Nunez was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead, officials confirmed. The investigation into the shooting and subsequent chase is ongoing, with a significant police presence remaining at the scene.

As of 5:25 p.m., all eastbound lanes on the 210 Freeway remained closed as officials continued their investigation.
