Motorcycle Crash on I-40 East Injures 20-Year-Old in Putnam County
PUTNAM COUNTY, Tennessee — A motorcycle crash on I-40 East near mile marker 294 at approximately 2:41 p.m. on Saturday resulted in severe injuries to a 20-year-old male rider.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the rider was operating a 2003 Honda CBR and attempted to pass a Chevrolet Silverado. THP reported that the Silverado changed lanes simultaneously, causing the motorcycle to rear-end the truck before crashing over a guardrail. The pickup truck left the scene.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the location to assist the injured motorcyclist. His current condition is not known, but authorities confirmed the extent of his injuries as severe.
A secondary collision occurred due to sudden braking, involving a small utility vehicle and a pickup truck towing a trailer with a golf cart. No injuries were reported from this incident.
The investigation into both crashes is ongoing, with THP seeking any witnesses or additional information.
