A New Market man died Thursday morning after crashing his motorcycle into a pickup truck in Rockingham County.
According to Virginia State Police, at approximately 10:35 a.m., a 2018 Yamaha motorcycle operated by 22-year-old Xavier Smith was traveling east on Route 33 at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle collided with a 2026 Toyota pickup truck that was crossing Route 33 from Route 646.
Smith was ejected into the median and was subsequently transported to Sentara RMH Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The driver and passenger of the pickup, both from Pawleys Island, South Carolina, were not injured in the incident.
Authorities confirmed that the crash is under investigation.
