Motorcyclist Dies in Crash at Golf Links and Calle Polar.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – A motorcyclist died following a collision with a pickup truck at East Golf Links Road and South Calle Polar on May 1 at approximately 8 p.m.

Colby Matthew Sweet, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Tucson Police Department. Investigators reported that a red 2015 Ram pickup was stopped at a stop sign on northbound Calle Polar when it turned left onto Golf Links Road and was struck by Sweet, who was traveling eastbound in the median lane.

Traffic detectives noted that Sweet was likely exceeding the 40 mph speed limit. Work zone signage was present in the area, obstructing the middle eastbound lane. Sweet was wearing a helmet and held the proper motorcycle endorsement on his license. Authorities said the 37-year-old driver of the Ram showed no signs of impairment.

Preliminary findings indicate that failure to yield at the stop sign by the Ram driver and excessive speed by Sweet were key factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing; no charges or citations have been issued at this time.

This incident marks the sixth motorcycle fatality in Tucson for 2026. Authorities report 38 total traffic fatalities in the city thus far this year, compared to 25 during the same period in 2025.
