Fatal Motorcycle Collision in Mountain View Under Investigation
MOUNTAIN VIEW, HI — A fatal motorcycle accident occurred early Tuesday morning on South Glenwood Road, resulting in one death.
At approximately 12:51 a.m., Hawaii Island Police responded to reports of a collision involving a 2023 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle and a 2014 Mazda sedan. Authorities reported that the motorcycle was traveling makai in the mauka-bound lane and passing vehicles in a no-passing zone, when it collided head-on with the Mazda approaching a blind hill.
The motorcyclist, identified as 24-year-old Tyler Napoleon of Hilo, was transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:49 a.m. According to officials, an autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death. The Mazda driver, a 43-year-old man from Volcano, was not injured in the incident.
Police indicated that speed and reckless driving may have contributed to the crash, and noted that Napoleon was not wearing a helmet at the time.
This accident marks the 17th traffic fatality of 2026, an increase from 13 deaths during the same period last year.
