MOTORCYCLIST KILLED IN CHAIN-REACTION COLLISION ON STATE ROUTE 98
CALEXICO — A motorcyclist died late Monday night in a multi-vehicle crash on State Route 98, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at approximately 9:35 p.m. on March 30, west of Interstate 8. Authorities reported that a westbound Toyota Highlander crossed into the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with a BMW K1200 motorcycle.
The impact propelled the motorcyclist into the westbound lanes, where they were struck by an Acura RSX. The rider, wearing a helmet, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Imperial County Coroner’s Office is handling the case, pending notification of next of kin.
Both drivers of the Toyota and Acura, who were wearing seatbelts, sustained minor injuries, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the crash. In a statement, officials urged the public to drive defensively and remain alert to changing road conditions to help prevent future incidents.
