COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ore. (KATU) — A three-vehicle crash on Highway 30 on Thursday evening resulted in one fatality.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at 5:39 p.m. near milepost 64, according to Oregon State Police.
Investigators reported that a motorcycle, operated by 32-year-old Nick Anthorny Verne of Kalama, Wash., crossed the centerline while negotiating a right-hand turn. The motorcycle sideswiped a westbound Toyota Rav4 driven by 73-year-old Kenneth Edward Uphoff of Ocean Park, Wash., before colliding head-on with a Toyota 4Runner driven by 32-year-old Elliette Michelle Vasquez of Astoria.
Verne was pronounced dead at the scene. Vasquez and a passenger, 60-year-old Michael Evaristo Vasquez, also of Astoria, sustained minor injuries and were transported to a medical facility.
Uphoff reportedly escaped unharmed. Authorities said the highway was closed for approximately four hours during the investigation.
