MAKAWAO, Hawaii (Local News Wire) – A 48-year-old male motorcyclist was killed in a crash Wednesday night in Makawao.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Mahiai Place and Piiholo Road.
According to the Maui Police Department, Jeremy Salinas of Haiku was riding a black and red 2006 Honda CRF223F motorcycle northbound on Piiholo Road when he failed to negotiate a left bend in the roadway and struck an embankment.
Witnesses reported that Salinas was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene; authorities confirmed he was not wearing a helmet.
An investigation is ongoing, with police stating that it remains unclear whether speed, drugs, or alcohol contributed to the crash.
This incident marks Maui County’s fifth traffic fatality of 2026, a decline compared to 11 fatalities at the same time last year.
