LAKE POINT, Utah (KUTV) — A motorcyclist was seriously injured after a collision with a car on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 near the Tooele and Salt Lake County line early Friday.
According to Utah Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. near mile marker 100, about two miles east of Lake Point.
The motorcyclist, a male, sustained “extremely critical injuries” and was airlifted to the hospital, authorities reported.
Initially, both eastbound lanes were blocked following the crash, but emergency responders have since opened the left lane for traffic.
The Utah Department of Transportation advised that significant delays are expected as crews continue to work at the scene.
As of 6 a.m., traffic was backed up for over four miles on I-80, with congestion extending onto SR-36 past Lake Point to Mills Junction.
UDOT urged drivers to plan for delays traveling from Tooele County into Salt Lake County.
