KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WKRC) – A motorcyclist was killed and a female passenger injured after power lines fell on them Tuesday night in Kanawha County.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene on Rutledge Road at approximately 7:58 p.m.
Authorities reported the motorcyclist and passenger encountered a fallen tree while traveling. The female passenger dismounted while the driver attempted to turn around.
During the maneuver, power lines fell onto the motorcycle, causing both the driver and the bike to fall. The passenger was reportedly shocked while trying to assist the driver.
Emergency responders noted that the fallen power lines ignited a fire fueled by the motorcycle. The motorcyclist died at the scene, while the passenger was transported to CAMC Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The incident is under investigation by local authorities.
