Motorcyclist Killed in Highway 97 Collision with Pickup Truck
A 54-year-old motorcyclist from Stapleton, Alabama, died Saturday night in a crash on Highway 97, approximately two miles south of Tungoil Road.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the motorcyclist was traveling northbound when he crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a Ford F150 driven by a 63-year-old Milton man. The impact caused both vehicles to travel nearly 200 feet before coming to rest on the roadway shoulder.
First responders pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup and his 54-year-old female passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital by Escambia County EMS.
Emergency response teams included the Molino and Walnut Hill Stations of Escambia County Fire Rescue, Escambia County EMS, and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Highway 97 was completely closed and detoured for approximately four hours as crews responded to the incident.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing, according to authorities.
