Update: I-41 southbound reopened to traffic at 2:12 p.m.; some backups persist.
Fatal Motorcycle Crash
What We Know
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded first to a motorcycle crash on southbound I-41 north of Holy Hill Road.
Witnesses reported that the motorcycle, merging from Highway 45, accelerated rapidly before the driver lost control. An off-duty EMT and a firefighter provided immediate medical assistance.
The Richfield Fire Department and Flight for Life were also dispatched. Despite resuscitation efforts, the 57-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Second Multi-Vehicle Crash

While deputies were investigating the first crash, a second multi-vehicle incident occurred at approximately 6:58 a.m. on I-41, north of Scenic Drive in the Town of Polk.
Multiple callers reported a semi-truck colliding with several vehicles that were stopped in traffic. One vehicle was found trapped between two semi-trucks.
The Slinger Fire Department, Lifestar Ambulance, and Flight for Life were dispatched for assistance. Four adults were transported by ambulance, and an infant was airlifted to Children’s Hospital, all with potentially serious injuries. A sixth person self-transported to the hospital.
This crash involved two semi-trucks and four passenger vehicles and is under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
