OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Authorities responded to multiple incidents in Omaha involving shootings and an earthquake on Sunday.
OPD: Suspect arrested after man, woman shot at in North Omaha
A suspect is in custody following a shooting incident in North Omaha on Sunday night. Omaha Police Department (OPD) officers were called to 39th Street and Grand Avenue just before 8:30 p.m.
Two victims reported being shot at, but were unharmed. Police arrested 39-year-old Kendell Tealer inside a top-floor apartment shortly after.
Police investigating two walk-in shooting cases at Omaha hospitals
OPD is investigating two separate shooting cases involving injured men who arrived at local hospitals Sunday. The first incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when a 25-year-old man sought treatment for a gunshot wound.
Minutes later, a 24-year-old man arrived at a different hospital with a gunshot wound, claiming he was shot at the Walmart near Saddle Creek and Dodge.
Nebraska residents from Springfield to Omaha feel earthquake
Residents across eastern Nebraska reported feeling an earthquake Sunday afternoon. The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a magnitude 4.1 earthquake near Hastings at approximately 1 p.m.
A second earthquake of magnitude 2.6 occurred shortly thereafter. Residents in Omaha and surrounding areas described feeling the tremors.
Driver in South Omaha motorcycle crash has died, police say
A 34-year-old man has died following a motorcycle crash in South Omaha. The incident occurred near 15th and Vinton streets around 10:30 p.m. Friday.
Police reported that the driver was traveling west at a high speed when he lost control, leading to the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
Nebraska senators send 11 bills to Gov. Pillen’s desk
Nebraska lawmakers passed 11 bills, including LB 653, which allows for suspensions of K-2 students. This bill now awaits Governor Jim Pillen’s approval.
Another significant bill, LB 110, requires written consent for medical procedures performed on unconscious patients, with exceptions for life-saving care.
Nebraska primary filing deadline for non-incumbents arrives Monday
Monday marks the filing deadline for non-incumbents wishing to run in Nebraska’s upcoming primary election. Candidates must submit filings by 5 p.m.
Election Day is set for May 12, with early voting by mail beginning April 6.
