Pedestrian Killed in Colchester Crash Involving Teen Driver

COLCHESTER, VT — A 52-year-old pedestrian, identified as Michael Pickering of Colchester, was killed in a collision with a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old on Malletts Bay Avenue on Saturday night, according to Colchester Police.

The incident occurred around 8:52 p.m. near Young Street, just over the town line from Winooski. Emergency dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting the crash.

Upon arrival, authorities found Pickering receiving resuscitative efforts from bystanders. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Colchester Rescue personnel. Pickering was wearing dark clothing while walking northbound when he was struck.

The identity of the teen driver has not been released, authorities stated, as he is unlikely to face adult court action due to his age. Investigators are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Colchester Police were assisted on the scene by Colchester Rescue, Colchester Fire, and multiple agencies including Winooski, Essex, and Williston Police.
