PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – A motorcycle crash in Holmesburg claimed the life of a 40-year-old corrections officer on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. in the 4300 block of Cottman Avenue, according to authorities. The officer, identified as Sgt. Devon Williams, was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Williams was a 12-year veteran of the Philadelphia Department of Prisons and was reportedly en route to work at the time of the accident. Eric Desiderio, President of AFSCME District Council 33, Local 159B, noted that fellow corrections officers who witnessed the crash quickly came to his aid.
The Philadelphia Police Department’s Crash Investigation Division is on the scene to assess the situation and determine the cause of the accident. No additional information on other vehicles involved or potential charges has been released at this time.
