Police Reveal Causes of Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Lexington, KY.

A Lexington woman died in a motorcycle crash on Man O’ War Boulevard on May 28, according to an investigation by the Lexington Police Department.

18-year-old Jillian Pendergrass lost control of her Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle and crashed into a light pole shortly after 2 p.m. Authorities confirmed she died from multiple blunt force injuries shortly after the incident.

The investigation concluded on July 10. A toxicology report revealed THC in Pendergrass’ system, marking it as the only intoxicant identified. Officials noted she lacked a motorcycle-endorsed license, indicating inexperience in motorcycle operation.

According to police, the crash occurred when Pendergrass lost control and skidded 47 feet before crashing. An officer on patrol witnessed the incident and reported that Pendergrass struggled to balance her motorcycle while accelerating from a stoplight.

Helmet camera footage from one of two accompanying motorcyclists showed Pendergrass engaging her rear brake, causing the skid that led to the crash, authorities said. The officer confirmed he was several car lengths behind and activated his lights after Pendergrass hit the pole.

Estimates placed Pendergrass’ speed at 70 mph, exceeding the 45 mph speed limit. Weather was ruled out as a contributing factor. Pendergrass was wearing a helmet and motorcycle jacket at the time of the crash.

No officer involvement or fault was found in relation to the incident, as stated by a police spokesperson.
