One Dead in Motorcycle Crash in Blacksmith Fork Canyon
HYRUM, Cache County — A 19-year-old man from Preston, Idaho, died Thursday night in a motorcycle accident in Blacksmith Fork Canyon.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred just before 11 p.m. on State Route 101 near mile marker 10. The motorcyclist was traveling west when he failed to negotiate a curve, running off the left side of the roadway.
The motorcycle fell approximately 12 feet into a brush area adjacent to the river bridge and eventually came to rest in the river. The rider, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are investigating speed as a potential factor in the crash.
No further details about the identity of the victim have been released pending notification of next of kin.
