Motorcycle Accident Claims Life of Local Teen
GUNNISON, UT — An 18-year-old was killed in a motorcycle accident on U.S. Highway 89 near Gunnison on June 29, 2026, at approximately 2:41 p.m.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the lone rider was identified as Boston Randy Childs. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Witnesses reported the motorcycle crashed after the rider lost control while attempting to navigate a curve.
Authorities confirmed there were no other vehicles involved in the incident. The highway was closed for about two hours as investigators processed the scene and cleared the wreckage.
The accident remains under investigation by the Utah Highway Patrol. Towing services were requested to remove the motorcycle from the roadway.
Childs was a recent high school graduate, described by family and friends as kind-hearted and devoted. Services will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Gunnison Stake Center beginning at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Centerfield Cemetery.
