COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – Solomon Sutton, son of famed moonshiner Popcorn Sutton, died in a motorcycle crash in Cocke County on Friday evening.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. on E. Highway 25/70. A 2005 Dodge Caravan was traveling westbound when it stopped and turned left onto Highway 107, colliding with Sutton’s motorcycle in the eastbound lane.
Sutton, 31, from North Carolina, was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities reported that the driver of the Dodge, a 23-year-old Tennessee resident, may face charges pending further investigation.
A tribute to Sutton was shared on Facebook by fellow moonshiner Steve Tickle, highlighting his connection to the local community and the legacy of his father.
The crash has prompted an ongoing investigation, with no lane closures reported at this time.
