TOMAHAWK, Wis. (WSAW) – Wisconsin State Patrol is advising extra caution on roads near Tomahawk amid increased motorcycle traffic for the annual Fall Ride this weekend.
The Fall Ride, a 40-year tradition, brings a surge of motorcyclists to the Northwoods, featuring live music, vendors, and various activities.
Crash Statistics
According to Sergeant Timothy Westphal of the Wisconsin State Patrol, motorcycle crashes are common due to their smaller size and visibility issues, often occurring when other vehicles pull out from stop signs or make turns.
Typically, Wisconsin experiences about 2,000 motorcycle crashes annually, resulting in approximately 1,700 injuries and 100 fatalities. “Drivers need to pay extra attention and look twice for motorcycles,” Westphal stated.
Westphal urged all drivers to reduce speed and check blind spots to enhance safety this weekend.
Weekend Events
Friday’s activities kick off with a pancake breakfast at the VFW from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., benefiting local veterans and organizations.
