Sturgis Rally Reports Increased Crashes Alongside Record Meth Seizure.

STURGIS, S.D. — The 85th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally concluded with four fatalities and 80 injuries from 66 crashes, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The fatalities involved two single-motorcycle crashes in the Black Hills, a pickup-versus-motorcycle collision near Rapid City, and a crash resulting from a police pursuit outside Sturgis. Authorities reported an increase in injury crashes this year, compared to previous rallies. Minor injuries also resulted from several other incidents, including collisions with deer.

The Highway Patrol’s “Rally Tally” indicates 266 misdemeanor and over 100 felony drug arrests made during the rally period, from August 2 through August 10. Notably, the largest crystal meth seizure in state history occurred following a traffic stop on I-90, where officers discovered approximately 207 pounds of methamphetamine, valued at about $12 million. The 42-year-old driver, a non-citizen, is facing multiple drug charges.

Authorities have confirmed that statistics reflect only cases reported by the Highway Patrol. For more local crime stories, visit MitchellNow.com.
