Three Dead in Upper Marlboro Crash; Neighbors Call for Safety Improvements
UPPER MARLBORO, MD—Three people were killed early Sunday morning in a crash at the intersection of Route 301 and Governors Park Lane, prompting community concerns about ongoing safety issues.
According to the Maryland State Police, the fatal incident occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. A Tesla making a left turn from Route 301 failed to yield to a southbound Harley-Davidson motorcycle, resulting in a collision. Authorities reported a third vehicle later struck one of the motorcycle’s passengers, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital.
Neighbors have voiced longstanding safety concerns about the intersection. James White, a resident, noted past traffic incidents affecting his family. “Just fix it,” he urged, referencing the need for changes at the busy location.
The Maryland State Highway Administration stated that design work for a traffic signal at the intersection is nearly complete, with construction anticipated to begin by year’s end, pending weather conditions. Officials also indicated that traffic engineers would review the site following the completion of the police report to assess any further safety enhancements.
County Executive Aisha Braveboy emphasized the importance of resident feedback in advocacy efforts for road improvements. She noted that Prince George’s County has recorded 21 fatal crashes this year, making community engagement crucial.
This crash follows another fatal motorcycle incident that claimed three lives just days later on New Hampshire Avenue in Adelphi. Authorities continue to advocate for safer driving practices, urging drivers to slow down, remain attentive, and wear seat belts.
