PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A hit-and-run crash on US 13 in Pitt County on March 11 killed 62-year-old Christopher Babcock.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. at the intersection with US 264 near Moye Turnage Road.
Troopers report that Babcock was struck by a car while riding his motorcycle, resulting in him being thrown off the vehicle. The car fled the scene, last seen heading south on US 13 toward Greene County. The driver remains unidentified.
A photograph of the car believed to be involved, showing a front left tire and part of its side, was released today by authorities.
Babcock’s widow, Donna Babcock, appealed for the driver to come forward during a press conference. “I’m broken. This person took my life that day as well,” she said, describing her husband as kind and generous.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established, offering a reward for information related to the crash.
