SUV in fatal NYC accident linked to Mundelein repair shop.

A Brooklyn man surrendered to police on Monday in connection with a February hit-and-run that killed a man in New York City, which involved a vehicle traced to Lake County.

Gregory Ventura, 35, is charged with striking and killing Joshua Germain, 31, as Germain exited an Uber on a Brooklyn street early on February 15. Ventura fled the scene but was later identified by police.

According to authorities, the vehicle involved, a Nissan Murano, was traced to a Mundelein repair shop after police contacted local officers in mid-March. Mundelein Police found the SUV at the auto repair business located in the 1200 block of Townline Road.

Mundelein Police Commander Rick Wilfenger stated that officers obtained a search warrant and impounded the vehicle. New York police took custody of the SUV on April 1 for further investigation.

Witnesses reported that Ventura operates a semi-truck that transports vehicles, and he used it to haul the Murano to Mundelein. Investigators noted that New York police were alerted to the SUV’s presence in Illinois through license plate readers.
