New York State Police reported that a motorcycle crash on Sunday evening claimed the life of a 19-year-old Astoria resident.
The incident occurred around 5:05 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway, just south of Goose Neck Bridge. Authorities said Dario Marsalek was riding his black Suzuki motorcycle when he struck the guide rail, ejecting both himself and a passenger from the bike.
Marsalek landed in the roadway, while the passenger was found in a grassy area along the right shoulder. Both individuals were transported to a nearby hospital, where Marsalek was pronounced dead. The passenger remains in critical condition, according to medical personnel.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident. An investigation is ongoing, as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
