LANGOLA TOWNSHIP (WJON News) — A 17-year-old boy died in a motorcycle crash involving a tractor Monday night in Benton County.
Authorities responded to the scene near the intersection of 15th Avenue NE and 160th Street NE around 8:30 p.m. The St. Cloud teenager sustained severe injuries and efforts to save his life were initiated immediately.
According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, the motorcycle and the tractor, driven by 64-year-old Allen VanNurden of Rice, were both traveling north on 15th Avenue when the incident occurred. The teen attempted to pass the tractor as VanNurden turned left onto 160th Street, resulting in a collision with the silage wagon being towed.
Both the tractor and silage wagon displayed slow-moving vehicle signs, and the teenager was reportedly not wearing a helmet. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene. VanNurden was unharmed. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
