Motorcycle Collision Verdict in San Bernardino Results in $2 Million Award
SAN BERNARDINO, CA — A jury awarded $2 million in a motorcycle accident case, where plaintiffs initially sought up to $134 million, according to court documents.
The incident occurred when a young driver made a left turn from a stop-controlled side street onto a busy roadway, colliding with a motorcycle carrying a husband and wife on June 10, 2022. Both motorcyclists suffered severe injuries, including lower-leg amputations.
Defense arguments highlighted shared responsibility for the accident, asserting that the motorcyclist also failed to observe the driver’s vehicle entering the intersection. Following deliberations, the jury assigned 50% comparative fault to the plaintiffs, significantly reducing their potential damages.
The case, titled Gebara v. Sotomayor, et al., was presided over in the California Superior Court for San Bernardino County. Defense attorney Frederick “Fred” Ufkes represented the young driver with assistance from associate Kimia Karami.
