Troopers Identify Two Victims in Fatal Weekend Crashes.

SALT LAKE CITY — Two fatal motorcycle and vehicle crashes occurred Saturday in Salt Lake and Tooele Counties.

The first incident happened around 12:50 p.m. on eastbound State Route 201 near 3000 West in West Valley City, according to Utah Highway Patrol. A motorcycle collided with an SUV, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, identified as 60-year-old Jay Reupena Pitone of Magna.

Pitone was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting a concrete retaining wall and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, authorities said.

Later that evening, just after 7 p.m., a man lost control of his vehicle while exiting I-80 near Lake Point in Tooele County. The vehicle rolled into a retention pond, resulting in the death of the driver, identified as 35-year-old Jose Angel Chavez of Tooele.

Chavez was airlifted to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries, authorities confirmed. No other individuals were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The Tooele County Search and Rescue dive team assisted in recovering the submerged vehicle. Both incidents are under investigation by the Utah Highway Patrol.
