Two people were killed and another injured in a collision Sunday morning in Aiken County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on U.S. 1/Jefferson Davis Highway near Ackerman Drive, said Master Trooper William Bennett.
A 2020 Subaru Outback was traveling north when it turned left into a private driveway and was struck on the passenger side by a 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle heading south, Bennett reported.
Both the motorcycle driver and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables.
The identities of the deceased riders have not been released due to severe injuries from the incident. Autopsies are scheduled for Newberry, Ables noted.
The Subaru driver sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital; further details on their condition were not disclosed.
No additional injuries were reported from the incident. Authorities did not confirm whether seatbelts or helmets were in use at the time of the crash.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office are investigating the crash.
As of March 29, at least 173 fatalities had been reported on South Carolina roads in 2026, per the Department of Public Safety. Aiken County has seen at least seven deaths in roadway crashes this year.
