DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Two motorcyclists died in separate crashes over the weekend, according to Pennsylvania State Police in Delaware County.
Brad Rhoades, 52, of Coatesville, was killed in a crash on northbound Route 1 around 1:44 p.m. Saturday, near Painters Crossing Condominiums in Chadds Ford.
Authorities reported that Rhoades collided with a FedEx delivery van. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger, Amy Rhoades, 47, was transported to Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia with traumatic injuries.
The FedEx driver was cooperative during the investigation. Police stated that the driver attempted to pull across northbound lanes of Route 1 without seeing Rhoades’ motorcycle, leading to the collision. All lanes were closed for approximately three-and-a-half hours.
The second fatality occurred at about 3:48 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 95 south at mile marker 11 in Tinicum Township. Athanasios Pilios was found unconscious on the highway and was pronounced dead by EMS at the scene.
Witnesses reported that Pilios was speeding on his Harley-Davidson when he collided with a box truck’s rear corner. The truck driver and witnesses have cooperated with the ongoing investigation. The highway was closed until approximately 6 a.m.
