Two hospitalized after scooter crash in Bridgeport, officials report.

Bridgeport, CT – Two-Vehicle Collision Injures Teen and Adult

A collision between a scooter and a minivan occurred around 4:32 p.m. Thursday near Island Brook Avenue Extension, according to Bridgeport city spokesperson Shawnna White.

A 15-year-old was critically injured and transported for emergency surgery, while a 19-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was also taken to the hospital, authorities said.

Witnesses reported that the scooter was stolen the day prior from the East Side of Bridgeport. A firearm was recovered at the scene, according to White.

The intersection remains closed following the crash, though authorities have not disclosed when it will reopen. The Bridgeport Police Department’s Traffic and Accident Reconstruction Unit is conducting an investigation.

This incident follows a recent statement from White urging caution among drivers and pedestrians due to an increase in scooters, motorcycles, and e-bikes in the summer months.

“The volume of scooters on the city’s streets makes enforcement difficult,” Police Chief Roderick Porter stated. “We cannot put our citizens in further danger by pursuing riders at high speeds for traffic violations. We are asking the community to be part of the solution.”
