Two Motorcycle Accidents Claim Lives in Clay County on Saturday
CLAY COUNTY, MS — Two West Point men died in separate motorcycle accidents on Highway 45 Alternate Saturday, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP).
The first accident occurred Saturday morning when 56-year-old Elvis Strictland’s motorcycle collided with a pick-up truck towing a trailer south of Tibbee Bridge. Strictland was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where he later died from his injuries. The truck’s driver, 46-year-old Emmanuel Moore, was unharmed.
Later that evening, at approximately 11:25 p.m., MHP responded to another fatal crash involving a motorcycle. Carlos Walker, 39, was struck from behind by a van driven by 28-year-old James Smith, just north of West Point near the Oasis Club. Walker was also airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. Smith sustained no injuries.
Both incidents are currently under investigation by MHP.
