Motorcyclist Killed in High-Speed Chase Collision in Virginia Beach
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — A motorcyclist died early Monday morning after colliding with a Virginia Beach Police Department vehicle during a high-speed chase on Lynnhaven Parkway.
According to Virginia State Police, the incident began around 2:41 a.m. when troopers attempted to pull over the motorcyclist for reckless driving on Interstate 264. The rider, clocked at speeds exceeding 100 mph, fled the scene, prompting a pursuit.
The chase transitioned off the interstate at Lynnhaven Parkway, where the motorcyclist struck the marked patrol unit at the intersection of Fern Ridge Road. Emergency responders pronounced the rider dead at the scene. The identity of the motorcyclist is pending notification of next of kin.
The officer inside the patrol unit was transported to a local hospital; authorities have not disclosed the officer’s condition at this time. The Virginia Beach Police Department and Virginia State Police are investigating the incident, collecting witness accounts and reviewing dashcam footage.
