RALEIGH COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A coal miner died following an accident at the Panther Eagle Horse Creek Mine in Raleigh County on Friday, according to state officials.
Authorities confirmed that Aaron Warrix, a 37-year-old shuttle car operator, was involved in the incident. Emergency responders from the West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety, and Training are on-site conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Governor Patrick Morrisey expressed condolences, stating, “Denise and I are deeply saddened by the tragic loss. Our hearts go out to his family, loved ones, and coworkers.” He acknowledged the challenging nature of the work that miners perform.
U.S. Senator Jim Justice also released a statement, highlighting the significance of miners’ contributions to the nation and calling for prayers for Warrix’s family and the mining community.
