WEST JORDAN, Utah (KUTV) — Law enforcement has reported an increase in motorcycle crashes in West Jordan as weather warms up.
According to the West Jordan Police Department, the uptick coincides with more riders returning to the roads during spring and summer months.
“We’ve definitely seen an increase in motorcycle crashes,” said Officer Cameron Carbine of the West Jordan Police Department.
In the past weeks, multiple motorcycle incidents have been reported across the state, including a recent fatal crash on Cougar Lane that claimed the life of a 25-year-old man. The cause remains under investigation.
In response to the rising number of incidents, police may increase enforcement measures aimed at motorcycle-specific laws and overall road safety.
“We will take more enforcement to enforce motorcycle-specific laws and any laws that may put motorists in danger,” Officer Carbine stated.
Data from the Utah Department of Public Safety indicates 336 motorcycle crashes statewide this year, resulting in nine fatalities.
Another recent incident in West Jordan involved a rider arrested for DUI after losing control and colliding with another motorcycle and a vehicle; no fatalities were reported.
Authorities stress the importance of awareness among both drivers and riders to help reduce crash occurrences.
“Just follow those posted speed limits and pay attention to everyone else on the road,” Officer Carbine emphasized.
