EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WJAR) — A 52-year-old Cranston man died in a motorcycle crash on South Country Trail on Friday evening.
Authorities identified the victim as John Simeonie. The crash occurred near the CVS around 8:15 p.m., involving one motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived to find Simeonie on the ground with severe injuries. He was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
According to police, Simeonie was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
A witness reported hearing a noise and seeing sparks during the crash. “I noticed a white vehicle up ahead that had their blinker on looking to turn into some kind of parking lot,” said Dennis Rockwell, who attempted CPR on Simeonie.
In light of the tragedy, friends have started a GoFundMe page to help support Simeonie’s family.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash. No further details about lane closures or tows have been confirmed at this time.
