Wyoming woman shares her journey of survival following a motorcycle accident that took her mother’s life.

BILLINGS — A motorcycle accident on Beartooth Pass on Sept. 2 has resulted in the death of 53-year-old Bonnie Lara and serious injuries to her daughter, 30-year-old Bri Kumba.

The two were traveling from Cody, Wyoming, toward Red Lodge, Montana, when the crash occurred. Authorities did not specify the number of vehicles involved in the accident, but Kumba was riding as a passenger on her mother’s motorcycle.

Emergency responders transported Kumba to a Cody hospital before transferring her to St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings for further treatment. She is currently facing a lengthy recovery process, including multiple surgeries for knee injuries.

Kumba described her mother as her best friend, emphasizing their close bond and the significant role Lara played in her life. Kumba has since returned home to Casper but requires a wheelchair for mobility due to her injuries.

In the wake of the accident, a GoFundMe has been established to help with unexpected medical expenses. “Any type of support we can get is appreciated,” Kumba said.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. No further details have been released at this time.
