Yuba City motorcycle rider identified as victim of fatal Contra Costa accident.

HERCULES, CA — A Yuba City man died in a motorcycle accident involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 80 late Saturday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:34 p.m. on August 8, just west of Sycamore Avenue, according to Officer Dan Gilmore with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Contra Costa County. The motorcyclist, identified as 23-year-old Sean Michael Hanson, was traveling westbound when he reportedly collided with a blue Honda CRV.

“The motorcycle was going at a high rate of speed,” Officer Gilmore stated. Following the initial impact, Hanson was ejected from his bike into the fast lane, where he was struck by a black Ford Maverick.

A total of 11 vehicles were involved in the incident. However, Officer Gilmore could not confirm whether additional collisions occurred between the other vehicles, stating, “The investigating officer is still determining the order of how things happened.”

Westbound lanes of Interstate 80 were closed for approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes. The right lane was reopened shortly thereafter, while the remaining three lanes remained closed for an additional 4.5 hours for investigation.

“This roadway is always busy,” Gilmore noted, emphasizing its significance as a main thoroughfare between Sacramento and the Bay Area.

The investigation is ongoing.
