ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – A 12-year-old sustained serious injuries after crashing an electric motorcycle into a parked truck on Dorfield Drive.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 8:24 p.m. to reports of the incident involving an electric motorcycle and a 2010 Ram 1500 pickup. Witnesses noted that the child was unconscious following the collision.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the motorcycle, which is capable of speeds exceeding 45 mph, was being operated by the child when it struck the parked vehicle. The electric motorcycle was found to be neither registered nor insured.
Rochester Hills firefighters transported the child to Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak, where they were admitted in serious but stable condition. Authorities confirmed the child was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, although it was designed for bicycles and not rated for motorcycle use.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office cautioned that electric motorcycles may be classified differently than electric bicycles under Michigan law, potentially requiring licensing and insurance. The Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is conducting an investigation into the incident.
