Joint Base Lewis-McChord Resident Dies in Motorcycle Crash on SR 7

A 19-year-old from Joint Base Lewis-McChord died Saturday following a motorcycle collision on State Route 7 in Pierce County, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

Tanner J. Trolinder was pronounced dead at the scene after his motorcycle struck an embankment around 2 p.m. on April 18, near Pilgrim Road. The Army has notified his next of kin.

WSP reported Trolinder was riding a 2002 Honda VFR800 southbound when he failed to negotiate a curve and entered the northbound lane. A second motorcycle, driven by 21-year-old Steven J. Zakholy of Auburn, collided with Trolinder’s motorcycle. Zakholy was riding a 2007 Yamaha YZF-R6 and was unharmed.

Both riders were wearing federally compliant helmets at the time of the crash. Authorities listed the cause of the accident as improper lane use, noting that there were no drugs or alcohol involved.

The collision blocked the roadway for approximately five hours as WSP conducted an investigation.
