Motorcyclist Dies in Highway 101 Collision in Goleta
GOLETA, CA – A 22-year-old motorcyclist died in a multi-vehicle accident on Highway 101 on June 29, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Dylan Monson was riding a red BMW motorcycle and collided with two vehicles while lane splitting at a high speed. He was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a guardrail. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported seeing the aftermath of the collision, and friends have since left candles and flowers at the site as a memorial.
Monson had graduated from UC Santa Barbara shortly before his death and had completed an EMT program at College of the Canyons. Friends described him as selfless, always willing to help others, and as someone who understood the risks of motorcycling.
The CHP continues to investigate the incident; no additional details on lane closures or tows were provided at this time.
