NORTH KONA, HI – A 19-year-old motorcyclist died in a crash on Queen Kaahumanu Highway on Friday evening.
According to Hawaii Island police, the collision occurred at approximately 6:42 p.m. near the 84-mile marker.
Noah Edward Zandstra of Kailua-Kona was riding a Kawasaki Ninja when he collided head-on with a Honda CR-V driven by a 65-year-old female resident of Kamuela.
Zandstra was transported to Kona Community Hospital and pronounced dead at 10:53 p.m. The driver suffered minor injuries and was released from North Hawaii Community Hospital.
Authorities stated that speed was a contributing factor in the incident.
This marks the 28th traffic fatality on Hawaii Island this year, compared to 15 at this time in 2023.
