93-Year-Old Bronx Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Crash
A 93-year-old woman was killed by a motorcycle in a hit-and-run incident on White Plains Road in the Bronx on Monday.
Leonara Campbell was struck around 2:30 p.m. while crossing near East 225th Street, according to police. The motorcyclist, riding a 2012 Yamaha YZFR1, allegedly sped off after the collision, leaving Campbell injured at the scene.
Witnesses reported that Campbell was on her way to pick up medications and food for a local boy when she was hit. Family members described her as a caring matriarch who often looked after neighborhood children.
Emergency responders transported Campbell to Jacobi Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Authorities have confirmed that the driver remains at large, and an investigation is ongoing.
Family witnesses expressed pain over the loss, stating that Campbell was an integral part of the community. “She was always willing to give,” said her grandson, Rolando Barrett. “We just want justice.”
Freddy Williams, a neighbor, noted that Campbell had recently spoken about dangers posed by reckless scooter riders in the area. “She was a sweet lady,” he said.
The investigation continues as authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
