LISBON, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A Lisbon couple sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision while vacationing in Alaska on July 25.
Katelyn and Ty Michels were struck by a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old who crossed the center line; the young driver died at the scene, authorities said.
Ty Michels is currently hospitalized in Anchorage following jaw surgery, while Katelyn is in intensive care in Seattle. Both are expected to undergo multiple surgeries, according to family sources.
Family members reported that Ty is focused on his rehabilitation and wishes to be with Katelyn soon. The couple’s two young children, ages 2 and 4, were not in Alaska at the time of the accident.
The family has started a GoFundMe to assist with medical expenses as Katelyn’s recovery is anticipated to be lengthy.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing, and authorities have not released further details about the incident.
