A 2-year-old boy was rescued from a hot garage in Phoenix on July 29, leading to charges against his mother, Amy Shellhammer.
According to authorities, a neighbor called 911 after Shellhammer allegedly sent a text indicating her child was alone in the garage. First responders found the child in distress and required 20 to 30 minutes to wake him.
The Arizona Department of Child Safety took custody of the boy on August 1. Medical testing later revealed fentanyl, methamphetamine, and THC in the child’s system.
Shellhammer faces charges of child abuse and violating court orders and is currently held on a $35,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing.
