At 9:18 p.m. on Tuesday, a Dodge Durango rear-ended a Yamaha R6 motorcycle on Horse Creek Road northwest of Cheyenne, resulting in serious injuries to the motorcycle rider.
According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), the incident occurred near the intersection of Horse Creek Road (Wyoming Highway 211) and Frentheway Road. The motorcycle was traveling westbound and slowed to approximately 35 mph to make a turn when it was struck from behind by the westbound Durango.
The impact was severe enough to embed the motorcycle into the front of the Durango. The motorcycle rider was thrown from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. Authorities report the rider was wearing a helmet and is expected to recover after being transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
An investigation is ongoing. WHP troopers indicated that fatigued driving may have contributed to the crash, as the Durango driver failed to notice the motorcycle and could not brake in time. No citations have been issued at this time.
WHP urges all motorcycle riders to wear protective gear, emphasizing the helmet’s role in preventing fatal injuries. Drivers are reminded to avoid operating vehicles when fatigued, and to find a safe place to rest if necessary.
