A motorcycle crash resulted in a fatality Tuesday morning on the I-49 service road in Lafayette, Louisiana.
According to the Lafayette Police Department, the incident occurred around 9:38 a.m. on the 2900 block of Northwest Evangeline Thruway, involving a motorcycle and a tow truck.
Authorities identified the victim as 53-year-old Christopher Fontenot of Lafayette. The crash resulted when the tow truck, traveling northbound, attempted a left turn into a parking lot and collided with the motorcycle traveling southbound.
The impact ejected Fontenot from his motorcycle. First responders transported him to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity was released after notifying next of kin.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with first responders arriving promptly to assist. This incident marks the second fatal motorcycle accident in the same vicinity; a previous crash took place in December 2022.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are expected to provide further details as they emerge.
