KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 32-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Gull Road Thursday afternoon.
The collision occurred around 4 p.m. between Elkerton Avenue and Colgrove Avenue when the motorcycle struck an SUV making a left turn. Authorities said the SUV driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The motorcyclist was identified as Javon Houston, according to family and friends. Houston was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency response included local law enforcement and medical personnel; however, specific injury details for any involved in the SUV were not immediately available. No additional injuries were reported.
Houston’s death has prompted a memorial gathering, with family and friends honoring him through a balloon release at Upjohn Park and a motorcycle ride in his memory over the weekend. The ride included participants remembering other local motorcyclists lost this year.
The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department is investigating the incident. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact them at (269) 488-8911 or anonymously through Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100.
