AUBURNDALE, FL – A two-vehicle crash late Thursday night on 80 Foot Road near Bartow resulted in the death of a 20-year-old woman.
Emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 10:27 p.m. to the intersection of 80 Foot Road and Connersville Road. Upon arrival, they found the woman, a passenger on a motorcycle, deceased at the scene.
The motorcycle, a 2000 Yamaha, was operated by a 30-year-old man from Fort Meade, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The other vehicle involved in the crash was a 2007 Toyota Tacoma driven by a 30-year-old man from Bartow. He was assessed on-site by Polk County Fire Rescue and cleared to leave the scene.
According to preliminary investigations, the Tacoma was making a turn onto Connersville Road when it collided with the oncoming Yamaha. The motorcycle operator was wearing a helmet; however, the passenger was not.
80 Foot Road was closed for approximately 3.5 hours as the incident was investigated. Authorities stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
