A motorcycle crash on Illinois 157 near Mengstrasse on April 11 left one passenger dead and the rider injured, authorities said.
Edwardsville Police Chief Michael Fillback confirmed that 26-year-old Valarie M. Martin of Bethalto died from her injuries at a St. Louis hospital. The motorcycle’s rider was also hospitalized with serious injuries following the incident, which occurred around 10 p.m.
According to police, the northbound Suzuki motorcycle collided with the rear of a northbound Toyota Camry, causing both the rider and passenger to be ejected from the motorcycle. The occupants of the Camry were uninjured.
The Edwardsville Police Department and Edwardsville Fire Department responded to the scene, providing medical aid and transporting the injured individuals to a local hospital.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no further details will be disclosed until it is complete and reviewed with the State’s Attorney’s Office.
